Unfortunately, millions of people are injured in traffic collisions every year. The extent of injuries suffered varies, but many are severe.

Injuries to the head and facial area can often result in life-changing harm. Outlined below are some of the more common facial injuries associated with car accidents.

Dental injuries

While the teeth and jaw bones are strong, they are not designed to withstand the amount of force seen in most traffic collisions. In some cases, victims of car accidents will lose teeth or suffer tooth fractures. In other cases, people suffer more serious dental injuries such as fractured jaw bones.

Dental injuries are not only painful, but they can result in difficulties with eating, speaking and even breathing properly. Dental treatment and facial surgery can also be very expensive, and the recovery period can be considerable.

Orbital bones

The orbital bones are the structures that hold the eyes in place. While these bones are very strong, the force of a traffic collision can be enough to fracture them. A fractured orbital bone can be very painful, and facial surgery is often required to fix the damage. Also, orbital fractures have the potential to cause complications for the visual system. For example, the retina could be detached alongside the fractured orbital bone.

Nose fractures

The nose is at the very tip of the face. This means that it is often the first part of the face to be injured in a car accident. In some cases, the nose may fracture. Again, this can require extensive surgery to repair the damage and the victim may struggle to breathe properly.

When a crash was caused by negligence, victims have a right to seek financial compensation. The more legal information victims have, the better their chances are of obtaining a just settlement.
